World Book Day marked its 20th anniversay this year. The annual celebration of authors, illustrators and reading is marked in more than 100 countries around the world. The event sees kids all over the UK dress as their favourite characters, receive book tokens and take part in the events that schools and community groups run to mark the wonder of reading.
Forster Park celebrated by dressing as superheroes. Chaffinch class (Year 4) in English invented their own superheroes and wrote a brief description of them. They listened to superhero theme tune music to inspire them. They will be writing about their new superhero characters next week and we can’t wait. KAPOW!
This week, exciting events have occured at Forster Park. We came back from half-term to find that a meteorite had landed in the car-park. Many of the children visited the site before the meteorite was moved inside the school. The next day, unexpectedly, the meteorite was discovered to have grown over two metres in diameter- and was glowing green!
The next day, the meteorite had vanished and mysterious footprints, capes masks and POWER words were found around the school. We believe that a superhero was inside the meteorite! Look out for updates coming soon!
The children have been busy learning about internet safety this week. We had a whole school assembly highlighting the importance of staying safe while using the internet. We also organised a parent workshop on internet safety which the parents found really helpful. They went home with additional information given in a pack. The children have had so much fun learning how to be safe while using the internet and have created some poster showing that they understand the safety rules on using the internet.
On the 27th January 2017 the Young Governor's went to visit Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham and the council chambers. Forster Park were awarded with a certificate for their knowledge of the London Borough of Lewisham. The children were able to ask lots of questions and hold the Mayor's gold chains!
CELEBRATION TEA
Yesterday we held our termly ‘celebration tea’. Thank you to all the parents who came to celebrate the children’s hard work and success.
All at Forster Park send a huge WHOOOSH… to the children who were chosen to be our, ‘Stars of the Term’ for Autumn!
We were treated to two fabulous performances by Years 1 and 2 of their production 'A Christmas Recipe.' The performances took place on Thursday 15th and Friday 16th December and both events were extremely well supported by family and friends. The standard of performance was remarkably high and we were all highly impressed by the children's performing abilities and stage presence. Please take a look at the 'Gallery' section of this website to see some more photographs of these events.
